Salary by role & experience (honest ranges)
The honest way to read SEO pay is by role and experience, as ranges. All figures below are external market ranges, flagged — they vary by source, city, company and skills, and change over time:
| Role | Experience | Annual (LPA) | Monthly |
|---|---|---|---|
| SEO Intern / Trainee | 0–1 yr | ~₹1–2.2 LPA | ~₹8k–18k |
| SEO Executive | 0–2 yrs | ~₹2–4 LPA | ~₹18k–35k |
| SEO Analyst / Specialist | 2–5 yrs | ~₹4–8 LPA | ~₹35k–70k |
| SEO Manager | 5–8 yrs | ~₹7–15 LPA | ~₹60k–1.2L |
| Head of SEO / Director | 8+ yrs | ~₹20–30+ LPA | ~₹1.5–2.5L+ |
Technical and AI specialists sit toward and beyond the top of their band. These are starting points, not promises — your skills, results and city move you within (and sometimes beyond) the range.
Why sources differ so much
If you’ve seen wildly different SEO salary figures online, here’s why. “SEO salary” lumps together very different things:
- Different roles: a fresher executive and a head of SEO are both “SEO” — averaging them is meaningless.
- Different experience: 0 years vs 10 years are worlds apart in pay.
- Different cities: metro pay is well above Tier-2/3 for the same role.
- Different skills: technical and AI-era specialists earn a premium over generalists.
- Different methodologies: survey samples, self-reported data and definitions all vary.
The honest takeaway: ignore single “averages” and compare like-for-like by role, experience, city and skill. That’s why this page uses banded ranges, all flagged.
