What each certification is
CompTIA Security+ (current version SY0-701) is a vendor-neutral, foundational cyber security certification covering broad security concepts — threats, architecture, operations, governance. It’s widely regarded as one of the most employable entry-level credentials globally and a common baseline for security roles.
CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker) from EC-Council focuses on offensive, ethical-hacking knowledge and techniques across many modules. It’s an intermediate credential, recognised by recruiters in India for ethical-hacking and security roles, and usually taken after a foundation is in place.

Which to take first
For most beginners: Security+ first. It’s the cheaper, foundational, no-barrier starting point, and it builds the defensive base that CEH assumes. The widely-suggested ladder is Security+ → CEH → OSCP (hands-on offensive) → CISSP/CISM (senior/management).
Take CEH first only if… You already have around two years of verified security experience (meeting CEH eligibility), and A target role specifically lists CEH, or your employer is reimbursing it. Otherwise, Security+ first is the more cost-effective, foundation-building choice.
