Salary by experience (honest ranges)
Pay rises with experience, but niche matters as much or more. Approximate India ranges across multiple 2026 sources (all):
| Experience | Approx. range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Fresher (0-1 yr) | ~₹1.8-4 LPA | Generic lower; niche higher |
| Early (1-4 yrs) | ~₹3-6 LPA | Portfolio and niche matter |
| Mid (2-4 yrs) | ~₹4-7 LPA | Specialisation accelerates |
| Senior (5+ yrs) | ~₹8-15 LPA | Niche/lead roles |
| Specialist / head | ~₹10-20 LPA+ | UX, technical, SaaS, content lead |
Reality check: high figures are for experienced specialists; generic writing sits at the lower end and is under AI pressure. Nothing is guaranteed. For the fresher-specific view, see our content writing salary for freshers.
The niche premium (the biggest lever)
| The single most important factor in content pay is niche, not years. A generic content writer and a specialised one can differ several times over in pay at the same experience level. Higher-paying niches (all): UX writing (interface/product copy) can average many times a generic writer; technical writing (documentation, manuals) commands a strong premium; B2B SaaS and fintech writing are among the highest-paying, since they need domain expertise AI cannot easily replicate; and SEO writing adds a meaningful premium (often cited around +30-50%) over non-SEO writing. Generic blogging pays least. The honest takeaway: choose a high-value niche, and your earning potential changes far more than it would by simply adding years as a generalist. | ||
|---|---|---|
| Niche | Relative pay | Why |
| UX writing | Much higher | Specialised product skill |
| Technical writing | High | Domain/documentation expertise |
| B2B SaaS / fintech | High | Domain expertise, AI-resistant |
| SEO writing | Premium (+30-50%) | In-demand, results-linked |
| Generic blogging | Lowest | Commoditised by AI |
